Autumn Season Roundup
With the spring and summer shows lineup coming to a close or at their midpoint (some firm favourites already cementing their place in the hearts of anime fans) it’s time to focus on what’s going to be starting up this autumn. As with last season, I’ll just cover the highlights; a more complete list is linked in the sources section.
Note: all airdates are generally subject to being moved (usually back) and should be treated as guides.
Shows
Petit Evangelion ~Evangelion@School~
Airdate: Sometime in August?

A bizarre twist on the Evangelion franchise-milking project, this is set to be a three “webisode” series with the cast from the original TV series remoulded into a highschool setting. Hijinks will ensue. The horror.
Sketch Book ~full colors~
Airdate: 1st of October

This is supposed to be a light-comedy/slice-of-life series based on a 4koma of the same name.
Dragonaut - The Resonance
Airdate: 3rd of October

Gigantic CG-animated mecha dragons, flying swordfighters, lots of big explosions, magic and loli comedic relief characters, all in a seemingly cyberpunkish setting. Oh, and Gonzo is involved somehow.
Trailer.
You’re Under Arrest! Full Throttle
Airdate: 4th of October

The next installment in the You’re Under Arrest! series that started its animated run in the early ninties.
CLANNAD
Airdate: 4th of October

Based on the tear-jerker moé visual novel game from Key, who brought you things like Kanon and Air.
Trailer.
Hellsing Ultimate - Volume IV
Airdate: 5th of October

I hope they finish this before the all the staff die of old age.
Jyushin Enbu -Hero Tales-
Airdate: 7th of October

Adapted from the manga, the author of whom created the Fullmetal Alchemist manga. Going on this picture alone it’ll be a game of “spot the state alchemist clone”. It’s about shounen fighting spirit and spirit hunting.
Genshiken 2
Airdate: 12th October

Otakus being otakus again. the first season was highly enjoyable, high hopes for the second series abound after the disappointing OVAs.
GHOST HOUND
Airdate: 18th of October

Woop, new Production I.G. series! Horror series with Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Dominion Tank Police) writing and Nakamura Ryutaro (Serial Experiments Lain, Kino’s Travels) directing. More or less a guaranteed hit.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00
Airdate: October

What’s known:
Setting - 2307 AD (”seireki”, Japanese for “anno domini”)
Characters - 4 Gundam Meisters, who pilot the mobile weapons.
Factions - Solestal Beings (not real sure on the English name right now), a private militia group whose purpose is to eradicate wars.
Tagline at the end of the commercial - “Rebirth begins through destruction”
Mokke
Airdate: October

Two sisters, Shizuru and Mizuki each have a supernatural power. Shizuru, the older sibling can see spirits, while Mizuki is easily haunted by them. Apparently the focus is not on a horror element, but may have more of a Mushishi vibe to it, though this is pure speculation.
Trailer.
ef - a tale of memories
Airdate: October

Another moé visual novel adaptation, but with Makoto Shinkai involved in the background art.
BLUE DROP ~Tenshitachi no Gikyoku~
Airdate: October

I’m pretty sure I read the first chapter of the manga this is based on, it was a yuri manga with very little of anything explicit. I recall the story seemed like a pretty neat concept, aliens slowly taking over the planet and a teenage girl jumping around rooftops, and I can’t tell if this is the same or not. Judging by the trailer, possibly not.
Regardless, there’s a girl who is posessed by a space ship for some reason with possible lesbian consequences (?!).
Trailer.
Yumedamaya Kidan
Airdate: October

Production I.G. again, and it looks like the creator (Akari Tsukino) was the winner of a competiton by Animax?
In the fantastic story Naho (11) is an elder sister who enters her younger brother Jun’s (2) dream. They live with their father as their mother died soon after Jun was born. Naho acts in the mothers place in relation to her brother watching after him at home however and the situation is frustrating to her sometimes
as she wishes to go out and play with her friends. A man with a slender figure who has a big trunk shows up before Naho one day. He introduces himself as Kotaro of Yumedamaya and he guides Naho into the dream world. Mysterious phenomenon begin manifesting themselves to Naho in her natural everyday surroundings after meeting Kotaro. She strays off into a dreamworld of her younger brother and soon encounters her own mother.
Ok, that wraps it up for the Autumn Season Roundup! As you can see, quite a few interesting shows popping up, maybe even enough to give the spring season a run for its money.

They all look interesting! Roll on Autumn. Ghost Hound apeals to me.
Looks good, I’m unsure about the chibi Evangelion though..
There’s some more stuff due out in the autumn I’m looking forward to:
- Stranger Mukoh Hadan (Movie)
Site: http://www.stranja.jp/
ANN: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2340
“Set in Feudal Japan (Warring States period of the Muromachi era) like Inu-Yasha, the “samurai spirits” anime involves the unlikely partnership of a nameless man and and boy he was ordered to kill. As the two embark on a journey to uncover mysteries and lost memories, they will face numerous assassins, each determined to make the search for self-identity a deadly expedition.”
Yet another Samurai outing, not exactly original but it is a Studio Bones work so it’ll certainly be worth checking out for that alone.

And then of course there’s season 2 of Moonlight Mile:
